Only child features-a predjudice?

In the last German lesson we had to deal with different statements and prejudices. In doing so, I took a glance at an article about only children. There it was indicated that a child without siblings should be more unfeeling and selfish. At once I had to think about it. I have to admit that I am only child and so, I took the statement personally. Could be a truth behind it?

When I think about my childhood I can say with certainty that I was the opposite of cold-hearted. I had my friends and when anyone annoyed me or did injustice to me, I burst in tears at once, or at least, I was very worried. But you can't put only children into one box. Some are more unfeeling and anti-social whereas others are more extroverted and warm-hearted.

A big factor of influence is the education within one's family and the social environment. When people around you are always friendly and emotianal, it's to suppose that you become the same type of person. Naturally, the time which takes the family for their child is important too. Parents with a large brood are mostly forced to split their time and this can leave its mark on their children. So it comes that one of them feels neglected or less favored compared to the others and because of that become more cold-hearted and egoistic. So, I wouldn't say that the prejudices are justified without even know the person or the background.

Research within the past 20 years has even shown that only children aren't actuallly selfish, but therefore often score higher for self-eestem and academic achievement than peers who grow up in bigger families. In addition to that, the strong self-confidence of only children comes from hanging around more with adults than with younger one's because friends of the same age are missing. So, it's to assume that most of us aren't egoistic and certainly care for our environment

In my opinion, people should be used to only children and see them as socialized and empathetic instead of cold-hearted and self-centered.

Caffeinated coffee-poison or medicine?

When I awake every morning, I have my daily routine. After using the bathroom, I search the fridge for anything eatable and make a coffee before I start to study or go in the university. Most of the time, I'm in hurry. But today, I have taken time to really think about impacts of daily consume of caffeinated coffee. It can't be healthy, I thought, and so I started to question myself, which influences it could actually have on the body and the mind.

No other topic will be that discussed in the science. For some of us caffeinated coffee could be healthy in contrast to other ones. Scientists found out, that this depends on the genetic type a person possesses. If you have tough luck and you own a special sort of the gen CYP1A2, it can increase the risk of heart attacks whereas the same can happen with Parkinson with a special type of the gen GRIN2A. Although, these effects aren't the only one's genetic variation could increase. Also more disrupted sleep patterns, worsening of PMS symptoms, increase of blood pressure and higher risk of miscarriage could occur.

But in some cases the opposite can set in, special gen types can even have a positive impact and can lead to an increase in athletic skills and mental perfomance, prevent from premature mortality, cardiovascular disease and possibly reduce the risk of getting cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and Type 2 Diabetes.

So, opinions, whether affects are positive or negative, differ a lot. Because of that you should keep in mind to take caffeinated coffee
with a pinch of salt.

The most unusual jobs in the world

Hey guys. How do you do?

Once in a while I surf the Net, looking for news or ridiculous stuff. Sometimes because of borness, sometimes because I just want to entertain me. Last time I did, I came across something funny. I found a webpsite that dealed with the strangest jobs ever and thought these would be a good beginner for my second blogpost. So, here I present you some of the weirdest jobs in the world:

Waterslide tester would be a a good living source for students like us, having not much money and just waiting for an opportunity to break out of our boring live. Having fun the whole day by slipping down walterslides and get paid for it, sounds perfect, doesn't it? Neither is the task challenging, nor extra skills are required.

I think you have get the first one, but what's with a warm-upper?..I guess you can't work it out. It's a person whose job it is to entertain the audience, bring out fits of laughter and applause before a show generally starts. Why do you need such a thing? Well, because mostly it's an entertainment show where you can't have a sleepy and dull audience, clapping at the wrong time or not at all.

Another funny job you can find eastwards of Puerto Rico, where one of the Virgin Islands, called St. Thomas, is located. There you can find staff who is responsible to protect vacationers of coconuts falling down the trees. Wouldn't you think there are better things to do as watching the whole day for falling coconuts, would you?

In Las Vegas though, youth, ahtletic and water-loved women have the chance to spring in a big fish tank, dressed as a mermaid with the aim to feed fishes and entertain people. In this city is simply nothing impossible.

Coming to a next weird job, I`m pretty sure that anyone of you who knows the film "Schlussmacher", had put the question to onself, if you can really earn money by ending a relationship for strangers? There is the response: Yes, you can. In Berlin, for example, it's possible. Your request will be processed for between 30 and 60 euros before further steps against your "victim" will be taken.

If these jobs are a little bit to strenuous for you, what's with become an inventor for fortune cooky sayings? I'm sorry if now I destroy all expectations of people who thought these phrases are true :=0?

Last but not least, animals also shouldn't get a raw deal. You can get payment for testing animal feed, apparently it shouldn't taste that worse. And if you are an animal protector you could contribute by collecting elephant sperms, I think I don't have to go into detail what you are supposed to do then?

Anyway, a topic you should be aware of, in my opinion. If you think, you already have a silly job, by distributing advertising material or anything else, you should remind yourselves that some people could do worse.

What good bloggers do

Hey guys, welcome in a new semester with torture :D

Again we have many challenges to overcome. Although this semester, we only have two PC`s to pass, there is a lot of other stuff with that teachers had thought up to pester us. And even if I had the hope that we can cancel blogposts for now and ever, I have to admit that I had known..deep in my heart..that it wouldn`t become easier to convince our teachers to push us through the course.

And with the aim in mind to work harder as ever, I have looked through different blogposts our teachers told us, to find out why they are their favorites.

Why: Well, because they are written in a very funny way and you can notice that the bloggers were strongly interested in their topics and they cared about their audience, too. They tried to address the readers with their passionate writing style. Of course, it`s difficult if a teacher gives us a boring topic..but you should at least try to go to the greatest lengths possible. In one blogpost of David for example, I read that he introduced one topic with a short definition, which was a very god way to start because it attracts people`s eye.

Additionally, if long or short blogposts it doesn`t matter. It`s important with how much interest you write and how well informed you are. Nevertheless, it`s a fact that on long blogposts often only a quick look is taken because at some point, the reader doesn`t want to read further. You should keep that in mind when you write anything.

So, I had set up some goals for myself.
First, to write short, informative and passionate blogposts.
Second, to work with many pictures, idomatic expressions or proverbs.
And finally, to address the audience and be that personally I can.

Well, I think that`s now enough for the first writing task.

Have a nice day :)
